Are the Autolane signs safe for pedestrians and visitors?
Last updated: April 15, 2026
Context
You want to know whether the sign hardware or the autonomous vehicles using the zone pose any safety risk to people at the property.
Answer
Yes. Autolane signs are passive infrastructure. They do not control vehicle speed, direction, or behavior. They have no moving parts, and they do not emit lasers, radar beams, or anything that could affect people nearby.
What the signs actually do:
Mark a designated zone with clear visual signage.
Use a camera to detect when autonomous vehicles enter and exit.
Transmit that data to the Autolane cloud dashboard.
The autonomous vehicles themselves (Waymo, Tesla, etc.) have extensive onboard safety systems including LIDAR, cameras, radar, and collision avoidance. Those systems are built and maintained by the vehicle manufacturers, not Autolane. Autolane's role is infrastructure: telling the AV where to go, not how to drive.
The physical signs are freestanding with weighted bases, designed to be stable in normal weather. They do not obstruct sidewalks, doorways, or pathways. Placement is always coordinated with your property management team.
